Innocent Bystander Suffers Serious Burns after Police Pursuit Cause Fiery Crash in Jersey City

A police pursuit that ended in a crash with police officers firing several shots at the suspect is under investigation.

According to preliminary reports, Jersey City Police attempted to pull over a vehicle in the Greenville section of the city when the suspect sped away.

The suspect reportedly fired shots at police officers prompting cops to exchange gunfire after the pursuit began.

More than a half dozen shell casings were found according to reports.

The suspect's vehicle came to a crashing halt near the Econo Lodge on Route 1&9 and North Street with the car bursting into flames according to reports.

The burn victim was an innocent bystander who was sitting in his parked car according to reports.

The victim suffered 2nd, and 3rd-degree burns after the suspect's car crashed into his vehicle, then a utility pole.

EMS rushed the victim to Jersey City Medical Center in critical condition.

About eight police officers were treated and released from the hospital suffering minor injuries.

The suspects suffered unspecified non-life threatening injuries.

The incident is under investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.
