The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has launched an active investigation into a shooting that left one person dead in Irvington Township overnight.
According to a preliminary statement, police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of Nelson Place at 21st Street just before 9:15 p.m. where police found the unidentified person suffering gunshot wounds at that location.
Medical staff arrived at the scene to pronounce the unconscious and unresponsive person dead according to reports.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Major Crime Task Force has taken over the investigation where no arrests have been made at this time.
