Irvington Police Fires Shot at Armed Irvington Township Teen

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino has announced that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standards Bureau is investigating a police-involved shooting in Irvington Township on Friday.

According to a statement released by Rhe Essex County Prosecutor's Office, shortly before 4:00 pm, Irvington police officers were dispatched to the area of 39 Lincoln Place on a report of a person armed with a gun.

Police units arrived in the area and spotted the suspect according to authorities.

Police say in the course of attempting to apprehend the suspect, one police officer discharged his service weapon.

There were no injuries as a result of the weapons discharge authorities said.

Irvington Police recovered a handgun from the suspect, Jahad Goff, 18, of Irvington, then charged him with a weapons offense and resisting arrest.

Police say the suspect is being held in custody pending an appearance in the Essex County Central Judicial Processing Court.

The investigation of this incident remains active and ongoing.

Attorney General guidelines require all county Prosecutor’s Offices to respond to incidents whenever a law enforcement officer discharges a weapon.
