Homicide Investigation Underway for Man Found Dead in Irvington Township Neighborhood

Irvington Township

The State Regional Medical Examiners Office will determine the official cause of death for a male who was found dead on a street in Irvington Township on Sunday.

According to a brief statement released by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, their Major CRme task force are leading the investigation behind the death of a male who was found on Ellis Avenue near -Madison Avenue and Hopkins- in the early afternoon hours.

The few residents on Ellis Avenue said the area has been deteriorated for many years and people usually come to illegally dump garbage on the street, use drugs inside some of the abandoned properties and engage in narcotics sales.

Residents say police focused their attention near a shed on Ellis Avenue where they believe the unconscious, unresponsive, and severely wounded man was found.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office would not immediately say what led them to the discovery of the man's body but would say that the investigation into their findings is in its early stages.

"I'm not sure if the victim suffered his injury at the location or if he was dropped off like garbage because we see guys with trucks dump trash near the properties almost daily," an Ellis Avenue resident said. "We call the Township all the time but very little happens because this area has officially become 'the forgotten' part of the Township' as far as the folks that have to live around here are concerned" the resident continued.

Police have not released the identification of the victim until they find the next of kin according to authorities.

There were no arrests made.
