Hit-and-Run Driver Strikes, Severely Injures Woman in Newark

The driver of a speeding vehicle fled the scene after striking a woman leaving her severely injured in Newark this morning.

According to a brief statement released by Newark Police officials, the incident happened just before 8:30 a.m. in the 300 block of Lyons Avenue where emergency responders found the woman pinned under a vehicle suffering a severe head injury at that location.

Officials say the car that initially struck the woman did not stay at the scene.

According to reports, an eyewitness flagged down an Essex County Sheriff Department who assisted in the search for a green Chrysler Pacifica.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
