Police Investigate Single Vehicle Crash in Hillsdale

The Hillsdale Police Department is currently investigating a single-vehicle crash that sent a Bergenfield man to the hospital this, morning.

Police responded to the area near Washington Avenue Tuesday at approximately 2 a.m. for a report of a single-vehicle crash.

According to police, Hillsdale Police officers, Alex Kaplan and Matt Buesser, arrived to find the undercarriage of an overturned vehicle on fire when they quickly out the flames using their fire extinguishers.

The Westwood Police Department arrived and provided the officers with additional extinguishers to ensure the fire was completely knocked down.

Officials said, a short time later, Hillsdale Fire Department arrived on scene and extricated the driver from the vehicle.

The driver, a 47-year-old man from Bergenfield, was transported to Hackensack Meridian Health – Pascack Valley Medical Center, where he’s in stable condition.

Based on a preliminary investigation, police determined that the vehicle was traveling north on Kinderkamack Road when it collided with a tree. The driver then lost control of the car, it overturned and eventually came to rest on the property of 73 Kinderkamack Road.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time.
