Hillsborough Twp. Man Arrested, Charged with Explicit Images of Minors Offenses

Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor and Hillsborough Township Chief of Police Darren Powell announced the arrest of Rolando Miranda, 38, of Hillsborough Township.

Prosecutor Robertson stated that information was received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children indicating that Rolando Miranda was engaging in sexually explicit online conversations with a minor. Based on this information an investigation was initiated by detectives assigned to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations/Computer Crimes Unit.

The investigation revealed that defendant Miranda was using multiple social media accounts to engage in sexually explicit conversations and to secure sexually explicit images/videos of children under the age of 18.

Prosecutor Robertson stated that on Jan. 29th, at approximately 6a.m. detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hillsborough Township Police department, along with Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, executed a search warrant at Miranda’s Hillsborough residence.

As a result of the search, multiple digital devices were seized for further computer forensic examination.

Authorities arrested Miranda at his residence, and he was charged with first degree manufacturing Explicit Images of Minors, third degree endangering the welfare of a child and third degree possession of Explicit Images of Minors.

Defendant Miranda was lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing.

These charges are merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
