Six E. Coli Cases Around NJ May Be Linked to Restaurant Chain

New Jersey

The state Health Department is investigating wether the recent E. coli outbreak that has spread to at least four counties may be linked to a restaurant chain.

According to the state Health Department, six cases reported in Hunterdon, Middlesex, Somerset and Warren counties "may be associated" with a Panera Bread in Phillipsburg, Warren County, as a potential source. However officials said it is not concretely determined Panera as the source, and that the matter still remains under investigation.

According to officials, the department is in the process of gathering food history data to positively link the chain to the cases.

Authorities expect to send its findings to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for confirmation and will then provide further information to the public.
