Five Rescued, Firefighters Injured in Three-Alarm Newark House Fire

Newark

A raging multi-alarm fire that ripped through a house in Newark sent several people and a firefighter to the hospital overnight.

Heavy fire broke inside a three-story house located at 915 South 18th Street shortly before midnight sending dozens of firefighters to the scene where they observed fire ripping through the roof in the rear of the structure at that location.

Search crews resued as many as five occupants who were trapped inside the house upon their arrival.

The occupants were transported to area hospitals for observation, but there were no immediate reports of severe or life-threatening injuries.

At least one firefighter received treatment after he suffered a non-life threatening injury outside of the house.

Crews brought the fire under control shortly after one with the Essex County Prosecutor's Officer called to the scene to assist in the investigation.
