Firefighters Pull Trapped Victims from Vehicle Submerged in Elizabeth River in Hillside

Emergency responders from Hillside pulled two occupants from a vehicle that became submerged in a river after a crash early this morning.

According to a statement released by fire officials at approximately 3:30 a.m., Hillside Firefighters Tour 2, Hillside Police, and Union County Police responded to Conant Park for a reported car crash with a vehicle in the Elizabeth River.

Authorities said crews arrived on scene and found a vehicle in the river with the occupants still inside.

Fire crews removed the occupants and were assessed by rescue and found to have minor injuries. Officials said.

Firefighters secured the vehicle while County Hazmat crews responded for possible fluids in the water.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
