Firefighters Battle Three-Alarm Westfield Fire; Life Threatening Injuries Reported

A ferocious three-alarm fire that destroyed a house in Westfield has Union County authorities investigating.

Heavy fire ripped through the roof of 1260 Prospect Street sending firefighters to the scene where they observed flames engulfing the house shortly before 3 a.m.

Firefighters with assistance from several municipalities fought back exterior flames in an attempt to make entry into the residence when crews were told that there were possible trapped occupants.

After entry was made into the residence, at least one unidentified person was pulled from the fire and listed in critical condition according to preliminary reports.

The fire remained active as of 4 a.m. according to fire officials.

There is an active investigation underway.
