Off-Duty Newark Police Officer Finds Wandering Toddler

A fast thinking off-duty police officer is being credited with locating a 2-year-old who she found wandering on a Newark Central Ward street on Monday morning.

The child was found in the area of Pierce Street at around 11:30 a.m. where the officer noticed that the boy was alone wearing pajamas with no coat on and carrying a backpack.

According to reports, police received a call from the child's guardian stating that the boy was missing.

Police reconnected the child with the guardian at the precinct then launched an investigation into the incident.

According to preliminary reports, the child somehow left a grandparents house on Pierce and wandered away from home down the block.

The child did not suffer any injuries.
