Police Scramble to Find 4-Year-Old Child Believed to be Inside Car Stolen in Newark

Newark Police offcials confirmed no child was inside a vehicle thieves stole that was left running in a section of the city's South Ward.

According to preliminary reports, police were called to the 20's block of Seymour Avenue to investigate reports of a carjacking at approximately 8:30 p.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they were told that three male suspects made off with a vehicle that had a child around the age of 4-years-old inside.

Several police units canvassed the area and ultimately found the car in the 100 block of Montgomery Street in Irvington after a brief pursuit that was broken off by police.

Witnesses on Montgomery Street said they saw three black male suspects jumped from the vehicle and ran toward 890 South 20th Street.

Police did detain several males who fit the description of the suspect, but no arrests have been made.

According to police officials, after they conducted as thorough investigation, the child never made it out of the home, but the victim believed that the 4-year-old was in the vehicle when the suspects sped away. Police officials said the victim left the car running with the keys inside.

The vehicle was never carjacked police officials said.

There were no injuries reported.
