COMMUNITY ALERT: Armed Suspects Rob Taxi Drivers in Newark

Newark

There is an all-out police and search effort underway for several violent males who are wanted for targetting taxi drivers in the area during the overnight hours then robbing them of cash in Newark.

Police say they believe that these same suspects are now wanted for committing at least two armed robberies in Newark and carjackings in the region.

Authorities from municipalities around Essex County have even stepped up security in their communities as they assist in the search for two vehicles that are occupied by males who are wanted for armed robberies.

Police were called to the intersection of Grove Street and South Orange Avenue at approximately 3:35 a.m. to investigate reports of an armed robbery that occurred at the location.

Upon their arrival, they found a taxi cab driver who reported that his vehicle was boxed in by a white Dodge Durango and white Infinity with several black males -armed with guns- exiting and pointing the weapons in his face.

The suspects took an unknown amount of cash before speeding away from the scene.

Police say the Dodge Durango has NJ license plate numbers 'J51-GPD'.

There were no serious injuries reported.

**UPDATE 6:05 A.M. Irvington Township Police officers have recovered the unoccupied Dodge Durango within its city limits. The Infinity remains at-large.**.
