A Colonia man was arrested last night following a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a 62-year-old Vauxhall woman yesterday.
Donna Babbs was walking north across E. St. George Ave just before 1 p.m. Thursday, when she was struck by a 2001 Nissan Altima vehicle traveling east on E. St. George Ave.
The driver of the vehicle fled, and Babbs was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Linden Police Investigators and Detectives quickly identified Michael Nicholson, 51, as the driver of the vehicle. Nicholson was arrested at his residence in Colonia without incident, just hours after the crash.
Assisting in the investigation was the Union County Homicide Task Force and the Bound Brook, Perth Amboy, Roselle, and Woodbridge police departments.
Police charged Nicholson with leaving the scene of a fatal crash and remains in custody awaiting an appearance in Superior Court.
Each defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The crash remains under investigation by the Linden Police Traffic Bureau, and anyone with information is asked to call Investigator Jimmy Solano at (908) 474-8505.
