FBI Assists Cherry Hill Police in Search of Missing Nathaniel Choate Sculpture

The Cherry Hill Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a missing Nathaniel Choate unfinished marble sculpture of the bust of a Sudanese woman.

According to authorities, the sculpture went missing from an apartment at the Barclay Towers in November of 2018.

Officials say because the sculpture’s cultural heritage significance, agents with the FBI’s Art Crime Team are assisting CHPD with this investigation.

Nathaniel Choate was a famous American artist who lived during the first half of the 20th century. Nathaniel Choate achieved fame for his art and regularly showcased his work at the National Academy of Design in New York City and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The missing sculpture was created in the 1930’s.

A reward is being offered for any information leading to the recovery of the bust and/or identification of the person responsible for its disappearance.
