Bullets Strike House in Newark’s South Ward

Newark

Pedestrians walking on a Newark South Ward street this evening ran for their lives and hid under cars after they reportedly witnessed a man pull a weapon and began to fire at a car that appeared to have robbed some of the street pharmacists in the area.

According to preliminary reports, a male suspect who exited an alley in the 100 block of Vassar Avenue at around 5:30 began to unload multiple shots from a gun at a dark-colored vehicle that was possibly stolen out of the Union County town of Mountainside on Wednesday.

The driver of the vehicle then accelerated at a high rate of speed and fled the area. While pedestrians ducked for cover, the gunman disappeared from the area according to reports.

A house on Vasser Avenue was struck by bullets but no one inside suffered any injuries.

Police investigating at the crime scene were notified that the suspected vehicle was located in the 200 block of Mount Pleasant with the driver running from the scene.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
