Wrong Way Driver Crash Injures Two on Route 9 in Woodbridge

UPDATED 2:35 p.m. Police closed Route 9 for several hours near the Woodbridge Center Mall due to a wrong way crash on Sunday morning.

Police say an 88-year-old man driving a Nissan Pathfinder northbound on the southbound side around 10 a.m. hit a 26-year-old man in an Accura RSX head on.

The crash sent both victims to the hospital suffer if "significant injuries" according to police.

Both victims were the only occupants inside their vehicles.

Police closed the southbound lanes formseveral hours then reopened them around 1:45 p.m.

One lane was closed northbound for emergency personnel.

It is not clear why the man was driving in the wrong direction.
