BREAKING UPDATE: Active Search Underway for Man Wanted for July 4th Shooting of 5-Year-Old in Newark

Police in Newark seeks the public’s assistance in locating **Mr. Jamar Battle, 30, of Newark,** who they say is wanted on a charge of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in connection with the shooting of a 5-year old girl that occurred on Wednesday, July 4th.

According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose, the incident happened at approximately 11:30 p.m., while the girl was walking with her father and siblings in the 200-block Avon Avenue when gunfire rang out and bullets struck her.

EMS rushed the victim to University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries where doctors treated the injury then released her Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said.

Detectives investigating this incident have secured a warrant for Battle’s arrest for weapon possession according to Director Ambrose.

While police are actively searching for Battle, we seek the public’s help in quickly locating him and removing him from our streets.
