BREAKING PATERSON NJ: Fire Breaks Out Inside Paterson Housing Complex

There were no severe injuries reported in a building fire that ignited in Paterson this morning -Wednesday-.

According to preliminary reports from fire officials, firefighters were called to 85 Presidential Boulevard -Riverview Towers Apartments- after receiving reports of a fire inside a housing project just before 9 a.m.

Upon their arrival, crews noticed thick smoke and heavy fire coming from an apartment on the second floor of the building.

Fire officials immediately transmitted a second alarm for mutual assistance from surrounding towns as residents in the building began to evacuate.

More than a dozen firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control with a search of the building for trapped and injured occupants coming back negative.

Residents from the third, fourth, and fifth floors were evacuated according to fire officials.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
