The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has been notified of a shooting that has one person dead in Newark's Central Ward at this time.
Reports of shots fired sent police to the 200 block of Hunterdon Street at around 8 p.m. where police arrived to find the unidentified victim unconscious and unresponsive at that location.
Medics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
There is also a second shooting victim suffering a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
Police have a crime scene established and an investigation underway.
