BREAKING NEWARK NJ: Newark Firefighters Battle House Fire with Trapped Child Inside

Firefighters rescued a young child from a burning building in Newark this afternoon then turned the victim over to EMS who made the transport to the hospital for treatment.

Heavy fire broke out inside a vacant building located in the 40' block of South 12th Street just before 5:15 p.m. sending firefighters to the scene where they observed massive flames engulfing the two-story structure and extending to a neighboring occupied house.

Firefighters were immediately informed of a child that may have been trapped on the upper floors of the occupied home, so crews made entry to the burning house according to reports.

Crews jumped on the fire and were able to knock the blaze down in a short amount of time.

There are a total of three buildings involved in the blaze according to officials.

Authorities have not released the extent of the child's injury at this time.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
