BREAKING NEWARK NJ: Essex Sheriff Officers Arrest Two Alleged Ironbound Carjacking Suspects

A police pursuit that touched off in several Newark wards ended with Essex County Sheriff officers taking two suspects into custody and confiscating a weapon a short time ago in the city’s South Ward.

According to preliminary reports, Sheriff’s officers patrolling near the city’s East Ward were alerted of an armed carjacking that occurred in the vicinity of Madison and Lafayette street before 11 a.m.

Police reportedly spotted the car and attempted to pull it over, but the vehicle sped away.

The driver of the car crashed in the area of South 11th Street and Avon Avenue just before 11:20 a.m. when the two men bailed from the car.

Police were able to take both males into custody then locate a gun that was tossed from the car. Police say one of the suspects required medical attention for an unspecified injury.

No officers were injured during the pursuit.
