The Union County Prosecutor's Homicide Task Force is actively investigating a double fatal shooting that took place in Elizabeth overnight.
According to preliminary reports, officers were called to the vicinity of Court and Second streets for reports of shots fired that erupted before 12:15 a.m.
According to reports, units arrived to find the victims suffering serious injuries after being struck by gunfire at that location.
EMS rushed the victims to an area hospital suffering life-threatening injuries where they died a short time later.
Sources told RLS Metro Breaking News that the victims are females.
A spokesperson for the Union County Prosecutor's Office stated that more information would be submitted when available.
