Bikes Stolen from Home of Newark Family Replaced by Newark Police Sergeant

Newark

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose congratulated Sergeant Juan Gonzalez of the 2nd Precinct after he donated two bicycles to a father who reported his children’s Christmas gifts stolen in mid November.

According to Newark Police officials, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the children’s father reported that two bikes—a girl’s 20-inch pink bicycle and a boy’s 18-inch dirt bike—were taken from the hallway of their residence in the 100-block of 4th Avenue.

Police said after reviewing the theft report detailing how the father purchased the bikes for Christmas and hid them from his children in the hallway, only to later learn that someone had taken them, Sergeant Gonzalez was moved with compassion and purchased bikes for the children using his own money.

“I am very impressed by Sergeant Gonzalez’s generosity,” Director Ambrose said.

“His act of kindness has turned what could have been a very sad holiday for this family into a time of gratitude and celebration for the entire City of Newark. We can’t thank him enough.”

The theft of the bikes remain under investigation.
