Police Officer's House Engulfs in Flames in Beachwood; K-9 Rescued

Fire officials in the Ocean County community of Beachwood are investigating the cause of a house fire that damaged a police officer's house early Saturday morning.

According to a statement released by fire officials in Beachwood, the fire started at approximately 1:20 a.m. where the Beachwood and Pine Beach Fire Departments responded to the report of a structure fire on Ship Avenue.

Fire officials say firefighters arrived to find a well-involved room and contents fire at that location.

According to officials, two dogs were reportedly trapped in the residence, with one of the animals being a K-9 Police Dog from a local police agency.

As the fire intensified, officials called in The Manitou Park and Toms River Fire Departments for mutual assistance.

Firefighters were able to enter the home and successfully rescued the dogs from the house then taken to The Associated Humane animal hospital in Tinton Falls by the Beachwood First Aid Squad to be examined and are expected to be ok.

One Beachwood Firefighter sustained a minor injury during the fire and was treated by medical personnel.

Firefighters placed the fire was under control in approximately 45 minutes, but units remained at the scene for several hours to conduct extensive overhauls.

The fire is investigation is being conducted by the Ocean County Fire Marshal's Office and the Beachwood Police Department.

Officials would only say that the police officer is a Jersey Shore police officer but would not immediately reveal what municipality.
