An Atlantic City woman has been indicted by an Atlantic County Grand Jury for Strict Liability Homicide for the drug-induced death of a 30-year-old man, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced.
According to authorities, Rajeri J. Curry, 29, is indicted on the following charges:
First degree Drug Induced Death
2 counts of Third degree Possession of Heroin
Third degree Distribution of Heroin
Third degree Possession of Heroin with the Intent to Distribute
Third degree Possession of Heroin with Intent to Distribute in a School Zone
2 counts of Second degree Possession of Heroin with Intent to Distribute on Public Property
Officials say Kaytisha Waddell, 27, is also named in the indictment on the following charges:
Third degree Possession of Heroin
Third degree Possession of Heroin with the Intent to Distribute
Third degree Possession of Heroin with Intent to Distribute in a School Zone
Second degree Possession of Heroin with Intent to Distribute on Public Property
According to authorities, on January 17th, members of the Atlantic City Police Department executed a search warrant at 1611 Drexel Place, within Stanley Holmes Village in Atlantic City. Defendants Curry and Kaytisha Waddell were living there at the time and were home during the execution of the warrant.
Officers recovered approximately 300 bags of heroin within the residence. Curry and Waddell were both charged on a summons, with the following charges: Possession of Heroin, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Heroin with the Intent to Distribute, within 500 feet of a Public Place and within 1000 feet of the New York Avenue School. Both women were released, pending prosecution.
Officials say on the evening of June 1st, 30-year-old Jeffrey Giannini, was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked in the McDonald’s parking lot 31 N. Arkansas Ave., Atlantic City.
Giannini had suffered a fatal overdose. Approximately two hours earlier surveillance cameras in the area captured Curry, selling CDS to Giannini. Next to his body were several bags of heroin that were tested by the New Jersey State Police laboratory and were positive for heroin and fentanyl.
Police arrested Curry on June 11th and was detained following a detention hearing. Waddell was not taken into custody and released on her own recognizance.
The investigation was a cooperative effort between the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Atlantic City Police Department. Assistant Prosecutor Kathleen Robinson represents the state.
These charges are merely an accusation and not proof of guilt. In all criminal cases, a charged defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
