An Atlantic City man pleaded guilty yesterday for the January 2016 killing of Steven Loughney inside his Atlantic City home, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced.
According to authorities, Kevin Quince, 29, pleaded guilty Thursday before Judge Bernard DeLury to first degree Felony Murder and second degree Conspiracy to Commit Robbery. The plea agreement includes a 12 year sentence in a New Jersey state prison, subject to the No Early Release act.
Officials said in response to a 9-1-1 call, Atlantic City Police responded on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at 9:47 p.m. to a residence on the 200 block of South Metropolitan Avenue, Atlantic City, where the resident, Steven Loughney, 28, had been discovered dead inside his home, the victim of a shooting. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit also responded to the scene.
An autopsy performed the next day by Dr. Marianne Hamel of the Southern Regional Medical Examiner Office determined that the cause of death was a shotgun wound of the right groin, and the manner of death: homicide.
According to authorities, a nine-month invcunnestigation by detectives of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department resulted in the arrest on October 5, 2016 of Quince, 27, of the 900 block of Baltic Avenue, Atlantic City.
Officials say Quince remains in custody and sentencing is scheduled for July 27th.
