Arrest Made in Two Newark Delivery Truck Robberies

Newark

Police officials in Newark announced the arrest of man accused of holding up two delivery trucks on separate occasions outside the same grocery store on Clinton Avenue in May.

Police say Mr. Mabashir Peebles, 28, was arrested after Newark Police circulated a photograph of him taken from a security video in the area, and received a tip from a member of the public.

“This another example of the partnership we are building with the community to make the city safer,” Ambrose said. “The great majority of citizens want to help us enforce the law.”

According to Director Ambrose, on May 9, Peebles robbed two men at gunpoint as they made a delivery to a grocery store near the corner of Clinton Avenue and South 14th Street.

Three weeks later, Peebles struck again, first asking a single deliveryman for spare change, then forcing his way into the truck, brandishing a handgun Director Ambrose said.

A security video image of Peebles was released to the public and he was identified shortly after. Police responding to a call of a suspicious man with gun on June 6 found Peebles and arrested him without incident.

Police say Peebles is being held on two counts robbery and several gun charges.
