Police in Newark are on the search for several suspects who are wanted for a carjacking that took place near a pet grooming business in the city.
According to reports, the incident happened just outside the Bully Zone Pet Supplies & Pet Grooming store located in the 1400 block of McCarter Highway just before 11:45 p.m.
Police say the suspect approached and stole the victim's black Mercedes Benz SUV with several dogs inside cages.
Authorities stepped up their search when they believed that a 2-year-old girl was also inside the car according to reports.
Newark North Ward police officers located the car in the 30's block of Peabody Place in less than 30 minutes. The dogs were found on Elwood Avenue, according to police. Authorities confirmed that a 2-year-old child was never inside the vehicle.
Police say the suspects were accompanied by other individuals who occupied a white "crossover-type" SUV.
There were no physical injuries reported.
