A teenage girl sustained serious injuries after being shot in Newark's West Ward shortly after midnight.VaccineThe incident occurred in the Fairmount section, specifically at the intersection of 14th Avenue and South 14th Street.

Authorities were alerted to the violence by a ShotSpotter activation, which detected multiple rounds of gunfire around 12:15 a.m.

Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered several shell casings and found a 17-year-old girl with a gunshot wound to her back. She was quickly transported to University Hospital, where she is currently listed in serious but stable condition.

Initial investigations suggest that the shooter, described as an armed black male wearing dark clothing, fired at the teenager before fleeing on foot.

Police conducted a thorough search of the area for a possible second victim but confirmed no other injuries.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing as Newark police work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and to locate the suspect responsible for this act of violence.
