NWS: Showers on the Horizon for Newark and North Jersey

For this Thursday morning in Newark and the North Jersey region, residents are waking up to mild temperatures, with the thermometer showing 66 degrees.AdDespite the partly cloudy skies, there will be some sunshine to enjoy this morning due to the thin cloud cover.

However, the National Weather Service advises that the area brace for rain later in the day. 

There's a 30 percent chance of showers beginning after 2 p.m. today, with clouds increasing and a high temperature nearing 72 degrees.

NWS forecasters said winds from the west will blow at 5 to 8 mph.AdShowers are more likely tonight, especially between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m., followed by more persistent rain after 2 a.m.

Temperatures will drop to around 50 degrees, with an east wind blowing at 7 to 10 mph.

The chance of precipitation tonight is high at 80%, with new rainfall amounts expected to be between a tenth and a quarter of an inch.
