NJ Transit officials are leading the investigation into a pedestrian train strike with fatal injuries confirmed in Somerset County Saturday.
Transit officials said at approximately 1:45 p.m., NJ Transit Train 723 struck and fatally injured an adult male who was on the tracks in Basking Ridge.
According to NJ Transit officials, the train left Summit around 12:14 p.m. and was expected to arrive in Gladstone at 2:08 p.m.
There was one passenger onboard and several crew members who did not suffer injuries.
Officials said NJ Transit suspended rail service between Sterling and Bernardsville for the investigation.
Service has since been restored.
