Homicide Investigation Underway After Fatal Shooting in Orange

Nearly a dozen bullets littered an Orange street with a male victim laying nearby struggling to stay alive after being gunned down last night in the city.

A fatal shooting of a man in Orange that happened overnight has detectives from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office investigating.

The shooting happened in 400 block of Cary Street (near the railroad tracks) shortly before 7:30 p.m. when police responded to reports of shots fired at that location.

Officers rushing to the scene found a male victim suffering injuries after being struck multiple times by gunfire according to reports.

The victim was transported to University Hospital in Newark where he died a short time later.

Police chased down and detained at least one person but are looking for as many as three more suspects who are also responsible for the shooting.

The identity of the victim has not been "officially" released by authorities at this time.

The fatal shooting makes it the second shooting homicide investigation in the city in less than a five day span with a total of five people shot in the city during the span.
