Firefighters Battle Scrap Metal Fire in Plainfield

Firefighters battlea raging 2-alarm fire at a scrap medal yard earlier this morning.

Authorities said at approximately 9:00 AM, Plainfield Fire, Police and EMS units responded to 1300 South Second Street, Plainfield Metals for a fire in a large scrap metal pile.

Units have a fire in a 50 x 50 ft. 30 ft. high pile of metals and oil soaked car parts.

Fire is confined to the pile and there are no exposures. All employees are accounted for and there are no injuries.

NJ transit was temporarily shut down, but has resumed at a reduced rate of speed.

Fire officials said the fire is under control at this time.
