Newark invites you to join the excitement of the 150th Kentucky Derby and the inaugural Newark New Jersey Derby Meet-up on Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Hosted at South End Cigars, 707-709 Frelinghuysen Avenue, this vibrant community event promises an evening filled with food, music, dancing, and, of course, the thrilling "Run for the Roses."
Attendees can enjoy both indoor and outdoor festivities, featuring live music, dance, and a showcase of racehorses and local fashion.
The meet-up highlights the potential and future developments in the Frelinghuysen Avenue area of Newark's South Ward.
As a special feature, the event will host contests for the best Derby hat and best Derby outfit, adding a touch of traditional Derby flair.
While Derby attire is encouraged, it is not mandatory for participation.
Admission to the event is free, and the main races of the Derby are set to begin around 6 p.m., offering a few minutes of exhilarating horse racing action.
